The top 9 Ways the Wordpress Blog Is Superior To A Website For Affiliate Marketing
Is a blog a website?
By definition a website is a collection of webpages, and so is a blog. Put in its proper context, here we’re comparing the relative merits of a Wordpress blog to a static website as a content management system (CMS) to promote affiliate marketing.
Crucial to making money with affiliate marketing is finding a user friendly system to build your website and present your offers and then to get lots of traffic to your website. The more traffic you have the more sales you can make.
To do that you need to understand what CMS and SEO are, and how Wordpress excels in each.
What is a content management system (CMS)?
At its core Wordpress is a content management system. Per Wikipedia: “A content management system (CMS) such as a document management system (DMS) is a computer application used to manage work flow needed to collaboratively create, edit, review, index, search, publish and archive various kinds of digital media and electronic text.
Wordpress is a free, open source blog software package that works exceptionally well as a content management system. Anyone, (yes, that includes you) can easily set up a Wordpress blog- without having to be a techie.
- WordPress is open source and it’s free.
- WordPress creates your site’s content in three ways: pages (static content like a website), posts (published articles for standard blog entries), and links (links to recommended services and other sites) that increase your Google page rank.
- A large number of free plugins (add-ons) are available and can be used to do virtually anything with your blog. Plugins extend the core functionality of your website.
- The “look and feel” design of your site can be easily managed with themes and widgets. Widgets are plugins or add-ons to your Wordpress blog sidebar.
- Updates to your content are easy, which means you can spend more time on your content and less time being a techie
Search Engine Optimization
According to Wikipedia, “Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of improving the volume and quality of traffic to a web site from search engines via “natural” (”organic” or “algorithmic”) search results. Usually, the earlier a site is presented in the search results, or the higher it “ranks,” the more searchers will visit that site…”
As an Internet marketing strategy, SEO considers how search engines work and what people search for. Optimizing a website primarily involves editing its content and HTML coding to both increase its relevance to specific keywords and to remove barriers to the indexing activities of search engines.
How WordPress works for SEO
WordPress is very SEO-friendly. By default, it puts important information in the right places so as long as you fill in the appropriate information. But there are also plugins to optimize your search engine rank:
- Pretty permalinks – permalinks are the direct urls to your content and optimizing how those links appear is good SEO.
- Google sitemap generator – this plugin creates a sitemap, which helps improve your search rank.
- Meta tags – which are information embedded in your site’s code that tell search engines what type of content you have.
- Main keywords- in your title bar for another SEO boost.
The top 9 ways WordPress is superior to a static website for affiliate marketing
- Interactivity- WordPress allows visitors to make comments for both pages and individual posts. Commenting personalizes the experience of the visitor. It also lets the website publisher know the preferences of his audience.
- Increased Traffic- The builtin SEO features of WordPress make it easier to optimize your search engine results. That means your site is more likely to land on the first page of Google results, which means people are more likely to find you.
- Fresh Content- The search engines love new content. Through the posts you publish you update and present fresh content.
- Price- Wordpress is free open source software. Plugins and themes are also free or can be cheaply modified. By contrast, popular web design software costs a minimum of $200.
- Everyday website administration- You can do it yourself saving you time and money. Wordpress also supports a system of assigning roles to different users. Website configuration, content management and content addition can be done by different people.
- Accessibility and security- WordPress is totally online. Which means if you have Internet access wherever you are, you can work from there. That also means your site is backed up on a secure server, not on your computer’s hard disk.
- Better link opportunites- Mean higher page rank, higher position is search results, and more traffic.
- Ease of use- The WordPress dashboard makes it easy to design and configure a website. WordPress has a WYSIWYG editor that requires no knowledge of html. Free plugins extend the editor’s functionality. Popular web design software programs typically have a steep learning curve.
- Web 2.0- The Wordpress blog is the ultimate in Web 2.0 connectivity to other Web 2.0 sites through plugins.
- Reserved for you- Share your favorite Wordpress preference over static websites.

Hi Procerin; No one platform is perfect so sure. The best part of Wordpress is it has so many themes and plugins that make it easier to do so many things for non techies like me.
Nick
Wordpress looks great, but the clutter – its good though otherwise, maybe too automtic in places, i need to give it a proper try though with my next website!
Thats very good to know… thanks
I’m 100% sold on Wordpress blogs. Having used Dreamweaver, you’ll quickly learn Wordpess and its many advantages. Good luck, Nick
I am in the process of learning and building my first wordpress site. I currenty use dreamweaver, but I’m very impressed with wordpress.
#11 – The speed you can get indexed into Google using Wordpress is amazing. My record is about 17 minutes, but I have heard of even faster indexing. This is almost impossible with a static html page, unless you happen to upload a new page the exact same time Google is spidering your page, with Wordpress your post notifies (pings) the SE’s and Bookmarking sites and they come running to check out what is new.
Awesome collection of all the things I love to read lolz.
love the theme and finally a blog where the font is not burning into my eyes.
Hi absolutely insightful, bonus for this post.
