Making money, ClickBank, and affiliate marketing go hand in hand- that is if you know how to get around some ClickBank problems.
Despite these problems areas, ClickBank is still the best choice for affiliate marketers.
First, we’ll cover what is ClickBank affiliate marketing. Then we’ll cover its benefits and the problem areas.
Affiliate Marketing
Affiliate marketing is the easiest and least expensive way to enter internet marketing. You join a ClickBank merchant’s affiliate program, promote his service or product, and earn a commission when someone referred through affiliate link purchases the product.
ClickBank
ClickBank is an affiliate management company. It is the best known and largest company of its kind. It only offers digital products.
It provides digital content – e-books, software, memberships and subscriptions – to consumers in over 200 countries.
ClickBank has more than 100,000 active affiliates and over 12,000 vendors of 35,000 unique digital products.
It’s a privately held company with offices in Broomfield, Colo., and Boise, Idaho. ClickBank serves as the intermediary for three groups:
- Affiliate marketers
- Product vendors
- Consumers
ClickBank processes the payment and screens for fraud, and pays both the vendor and the referring affiliate. When it’s a direct consumer sale, of course, there’s no affiliate commission to pay.
Key benefits for affiliates include:
- No need to set up a merchant account or have to take credit card payments
- No banking or Paypal account is needed to become a Clickbank member
- Large variety of products to promote
- Average commission rates of 50% to 70%
- Comprehensive tracking, and reporting (through your account)
- Single commission check for all sales from ClickBank
- No requirement to have individual contracts with each vendor
- Comprehensive fraud management
The key benefits for product vendors include:
- Easy access to a motivated army of affiliates
- Payment of all affiliate commissions by ClickBank
- Sell products to people in over 200 countries
- No need to establish a merchant account or other banking relationship
- Comprehensive fraud management
Key benefits for consumers include
- Easy access to a wide variety of products and services
- Safe and secure purchasing process
- Fast and friendly customer service
- Consumer friendly policies
Problem areas for both affiliates and vendors
The ClickBank Marketplace is the search tool for the thousands of different titles based on several criteria, some of which have no relation to typical internet marketing categories. It’s important to know the search capablities of the Marketplace are rather limited.
To improve on the search for the best possible products in the Marketplace you have three options.
- ClickBank will provide you the raw data
- You can import it into Excel and reorder it to your criteria.
- Subcribe to a search membership service with monthly payments
- Buy a software database tool for a one-time payment
Problem areas for affiliates
- No requirement for Vendor to provide any affiliate promotion tools.
- Affiliate links are not cloaked. The basic hoplink is not ‘protected’.
- Anyone can simply substitute his own nickname and steal the commission for the purchase.
- No ClickBank restrictions on unfair Vendor practices that steal affiliate’s commissions.
- Where’s my commission check? Discover a little known ClickBank policy why they withhold the first payment!
Problem areas for vendors
- No vital marketing statistics – regarding the conversion ratio for each of your products, your top affiliates, your top performing products, etc.
- No information on affiliates – harder to communicate with them, provide them various marketing/promotional materials, and sales stats.
- No integration with 3rd party software – e.g. Aweber, Getresponse,N
- No protection for your digital downloads.

Thanks for sharing the info. I just started with Clickbank recently. This is something that should be taken into account.
Thanks for your recommendations, one needs to have a process map or a kind of check mark system to fallow as you go along. If you planning to market a Clickbank product I would recommend to check the course called ClickBank Cash it has Video tutorials that you can follow the process all the way through.
